What Is Annatto?

A natural orange-yellow food coloring derived from the seeds of the achiote tree (Bixa orellana). Widely used in cheese, butter, margarine, snacks, and cereals to provide yellow-orange color. Often marketed as a 'natural' alternative to synthetic dyes.

Mechanism of Action

Contains carotenoid pigments bixin and norbixin.
